What is God’s problem? Some claim that the Christian can easily deflect criticism by appealing to Jesus’ life. But we cannot evade the Old Testament. Consider this allegation:“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.” And what about Hell and God not being so obvious to so many people? Could the Islamic God be the same God as the Bible? How is the Christian to respond to homosexuality or about the relationship between science and Scripture? These “problems” and more will be addressed at our annual multi-church, multi-campus ministry, Symposium: The Problem of God, Feb.17-18, held at Purdue and Covenant Church.
