Freezy Pops and Purdue
Tuesday, August 24th, 2010
Well we're officially back into the swing of school and Sunday youth group! This week we dedicated our new room in the basement to the Lord-if you haven't gone down to see our new pad, I highly recommend a trip across the parking lot this week! We ate pizza, caught up on what everyone's favorite part of the summer was, had communion in our new sanctuary, and then for the second half of the evening we took the senior high over to Chauncy Hill where we handed out freezy pops to all the students coming back! It was such a fun day-we almost tripped some skate boaders, but they quickly forgave us as we loaded them down with popsicles. I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for us this semester, it's going to be alot of figuring out the dynamics of our new students, meeting them where they are in their walks, and challenging them to live their lives for Christ outside the walls of our little community-challenging? Yep! Worth it? Oh yeah.

This morning we are going to begin a series of sermons on transformation. Transformation or change is a fundamental element of the Christian life. The phrase, “I will never change” has no place in the life of a Christian. We cannot be faithful people if we do not constantly change.
There are two fundamental changes that should occur in the Christian life. The first is the moment that we change our lives from being self-directed to directed by God. We step over the line and admit that we are sinful and in need of a savior.
The next level of change, however, is not so clear. It is the continual churning of our souls by which we constantly change into people that are more Christ-like. It is a churning in the sense that as we see a clearer picture of Jesus, we recognize how far from that picture we are and how much in need of transformation we really are.
Promiseland Chatter-August 2010
Wednesday, August 18th, 2010
Wow, it’s hard to believe we are winding down from Summer already! It has been a nice break for us in Promiseland by having only one teaching time this summer. As we look forward to September, we have many changes coming. Sometimes I feel all we do down here is make changes, but I guess that is inevitable as we continue to grow as a church.
Our first change will be to two services starting August 22. This will not be Promotion Sunday because our Promiseland curriculum does not begin until the first Sunday in September. At this time, our children will move up to their new classes. If your child has turned two by September 5 he or she will go to the 2 year class. If your child has turned 3-5 years by then, he or she will go to the 3-5 year class. The same will be true for the other grades K-5th. The only time children will move up to another class will be on Promotion Sunday each Fall.
Riverside Votes To Purchase Property
Sunday, August 15th, 2010
After weeks of prayer and congregational discussions in person and online, Riverside voted on Sunday, August 15 to purchase the 20 acres of property situated on the east side of Klondike Rd. where 250 N. and Klondike Rd. intersect. The measure passed with 70% approval of the membership and sufficient financial pledges to meet the additional expenses. We now look forward to clarifying God's vision for Riverside through understanding our gifts, our community, and how they fit together.
